FRIDAY 6th JANUARY
The wind has subsided considerably but it’s still rainy. Temperatures are remarkably moderate for this time of year. We usually have heavy frosts and chill winds blowing but it really is quite mild. Had an excellent day out and about as well as in the office, and things should continue to get better and better. I certainly hope so! The workmen are taking down the Christmas Lights and the Market Place Tree was being removed when I passed by. This was probably the best tree we have ever had. It is a traditional gift to the Town from the Ulverston Traders’ Association. The supplier has always been Harry Barker from Striber’s Farm at Holker and he pre-selects trees for us several years in advance! Everywhere looks bare now though. It’s always the same. Just like after the Flag and Banner Fortnight. Yes? Met up with everyone at the Farmer’s for Early Doors and we had a really super time. We dominated our corner and everyone showed up inlcuding Dave’s daughter, Becky. It’s Willy One-Eye’s turn to “Pick the Ponies” for the Racing Syndicate. Ding Dong struck gold last week with some folding money going into the Building Society. Everyone is hoping for a profitable year and that the pay-out on Christmas Day 2012 will prove to be a bumper one! The answer to the quiz question: the year of the Ibrox Park Disaster was……..1971…..a terrible tradgedy.
