Sunday 16th January; Woke up to a rainy morning, so attacked the Crossword whilst listening to the radio and finished the thing! Felt quite smug. Had my usual Sunday treat of a luxurious bath, followed by a FE and a pot of strong coffee. Didn’t venture out due to the weather, simply pottered around and quite enjoying it, too. Met up at the Farmer’s for “Cocktails at 5 “. Alan was first to show and there was a long gap before Big Dave showed, and a further gap for Derek, and an even longer gap for Willy One-Eye. The pub was nicely populated and there was a very pleasant ambience. Dave and Sue Seeley came in and joined our merry throng. Big Dave was a bit down in the mouth, as well as his pocket, as he had had a particularly poor weekend on the betting front. Willy was in good form providing free counseling sessions. Even Derek did not seem his usual self, but I suspect he has not yet quite got over being under the weather from last week. With advancing years the repair schedule is somewhat longer. Alan had to go at 6.30 as he ” had to go to a family party”. There was a scurrilous suggestion that this was just a plausible excuse and that he had a secret rendezvous somewhere. I confess that he did look rather excited and had a little smirk on his face. But I had no doubt in my mind that he was telling us the truth. Everyone knows that I would never slur or make inappropriate comments of one of my mates. John and Helen Stanton came in rather late and joined our group. Always welcome. Willy One-Eye is jetting off to San Francisco in a couple of weeks time. He has been there before he told us, and he boasted of his kite-flying prowess. It was later revealed that he refined his flying skills on the San Francisco nudist beach. Derek is jetting off too. He is going to his daughter’s wedding in Cape Town, South Africa in April. With everyone jetting off to exotic places, I’m getting the urge to fly again, now. Got home in time to watch that soppy programme Lark Rise to Candelford. Brilliant! A really nice weekend
Lark Rise to Candleford is back on tv!
