Sunday 22nd August; Woke up to fabulous sunshine streaming into my bedroom. Up with the larks, had a deep, soaky bath, followed by my weekly treat of a FE. Fried bread. The lot! All washed down with a pot of Lapsang Souchong. Delicious. Got all ready, packed my rucksack with a flask and some fruit and climbed up Hoad Hill ready for the Grand Re-Opening. Was up there by 11 and there was only half a dozen brave souls up there at that time. They then started to arrive and by the official time of 12.15 there was a massive crowd up there. Helen and Dave came up with Karen and Andy Whittle and then the Chapman’s arrived. There were good speeches by the Mayor, Councillor Phil Lister and the 7th Baronet of Ulverston who is a direct descendant of Sir John Barrow. A flag was presented by Trinity House and this was ceremoniously raised. Lots of folk lingered after the ceremony was over to enjoy the wonderful views and soaking up the summer sunshine. A Gala was held in the grounds of Ford Park and that was well attended too. Home then and sat in the roof garden to “soak up the rays” and then met up with A in the Farmer’s for Cocktails at 5. Migrated to the Terrace of the Mill where D joined us as he had been delayed watching Man U. Back to the Farmers, meeting S and D, G and A and several others. Stayed for a nice tea and then home by about 9 but came out again at 10 to marvel at the firework display ( truly spectacular) and then back home for 10.15 and straight off to bobo’s. A great weekend.
