Saturday 28th August; A nice sunny day, but a few clouds around too. Worked for the morning then at 12 picked up Derek and set off for Cartmel Races. There was a very good crows there by the time we arrived and the first race was 1.35. Had a terrible day. My luck has run out I think. 7 bets and 7 losers. Joined the Bookmakers Benevolent Fund I think. The rain arrived and when it did it was torrential! Curiously though, it only rained between races and never during! Did not do much to aid my chances however. Nevertheless we had a good time in good company. On our return to Ulverston we decided to drown our sorrows with a couple of pints. The “couple” extended into “several” and by 8.30 I was pretty well whacked so home to bobo’s.
